Group Classes

All classes are developmentally appropriate and there is a clear swim pathway from Beginners and Little Splashers to Intermediate and Intermediate Level 2.  There is also progression within the class.

We follow the STA Learn to Swim Programme.

Beginner Classes

Little Splashers
(3-5 years old)

30 minute lesson where we work on your little star's water confidence as well as water safety. 

 

We also teach basic swimming skills, examples being, blowing bubbles, front and back paddle, moving our legs like a crocodile, floating and flipping from our fronts to backs and backs to front, rockets and pencils to help with body position in the water. 

 

A parent does not come into the water, which is great if you have other children to look after.

Beginners
(4-8 years old)

30 minute lesson for children who are nervous or have never swum before. In this class we will be working on water confidence and water safety.   We will also be learning the strokes of front and back paddle and basic breaststroke, moving our legs in circles. 

 

Examples of other skills taught are star and pencil floats, flipping from our backs to front, rockets and pencils to help with body position, breathing by blowing bubbles and putting our faces in the water.

Intermediate Classes

Intermediate
(5-8 years old)

30 minute lesson where we continue to learn about water safety.

​

This class is children who have swum before and can swim with one buoyancy aid.

​

We will continue to work on our body position and learning front and back paddle.  We may start to progress to front and back crawl.  We will learn breaststroke legs. 

 

Examples of other skills that will be taught are skulling, treading water by learning to be seahorses, putting our faces underwater and gradually progress to picking an object up from the pool floor.

Little Splashers 
Intermediates
(3-5 years old)

30 minute lesson for little star's who can swim with one aid and are close to swimming without it. 

 

We will continue to work on our body position and learning front and back paddle.  We may start to progress to front and back crawl.  We will learn to make circles with our legs.

 

Examples of other skills that will be taught are skulling, treading water by learning to be seahorses, putting our faces underwater and gradually progress to picking an object up from the pool floor.

For those who can swim without an aid

Intermediate Level 2
(5-8 years old)

30 minute lesson where we continue to learn about water safety.

 

This class is for those who can swim without a buoyancy aid.  They may still need an aid for some activities such as treading water and the swimming without an aid may only be for a short distance.

​

In this class we will be moving on from the strokes of front and back paddle to front and back crawl and breaststroke.  We will also be learning to swim underwater and pick up objects from the pool floor or swim through hoops.  Examples of other activities that will be covered are mushroom floats, sculling and maybe even a dolphin kick!
